Be sure to disable the introduction video before starting the game, as it does not work properly and may halt or seriously slow the game's startup process. To do this, right-click the game in Steam's "My Games" window, and click "Properties". Then, click "Set launch options..." and enter in, without quotes (but including the hyphen) "-novid". Click "OK", and then click "Close". Now you can start up The Ship and it will load the main screen normally. Enjoy!
