Process tested successfully using CrossOver 10.0.3 running on Mac OS X 10.6.7 in 64-bit mode.
Install IE 8 via CrossTie.
From the Programs menu, select "Run Command..."
Within the Run Command window, select the Internet Explorer 8 bottle. For the command, type "regedit" (without the double quotations.) Click Run.
The Registry Editor window will appear.
In the navigation pane on the left side of the window, expand to the following key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Software -> Microsoft -> Internet Explorer -> Main.
For the "Main" key selected, within the right pane, right-click and select the menu option "New -> DWORD_Value".
Change the name to TabProcGrowth. Leave the "Data" value at 0.
Exit RegEdit. Launch IE 8.
Complete the "Welcome to Internet Explorer 8." I advise turning off most features advertised during this process.
Note: As of CrossOver 10.0.3, shortly after IE 8 launches each time, you will see a window display stating that "The program iexplore.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close." Click the Close button to acknowledge the window, and IE 8 should still function and successfully browse web sites. However, do not attempt to start multiple tabs. As of CrossOver 10.0.3, this functionality appears broken and will freeze up IE 8 altogether. The application still has a number of issues running properly under CrossOver 10.x, so don't be surprised at random crashes or freezes.
