Mplab 5.7 is a free assembler/debugger/programmer for PIC microcontrollers.
It does not look like this program can be downloaded from the main site anymore - only version 7.2 is now available. This is a request specific to mplab v5.7, as the newer versions no longer support the serial programmer (ICD) but only support the USB version (ICD2).
This is a 16-bit application. It starts up fine and runs fine, except certain key dialog boxes appear as unfilled rectangles with one button showing, but the rest of the controls missing. This is the only thing that prevents me from using this program. Unfortunately, cannot use a later version because it would require me to change my hardware.

The software is no longer supported by Microchip, but it was a free program to begin with and the file is still out there on many engineering sites. Here is a link to the installer:
