Microsoft Money

Personal Finance and bank account management software.  This was one of the best personal financial programs ever.

Money was sold from 1991 until its discontinuation in 2009, Microsoft Money was commercial software. When Microsoft discontinued sales a replacement version, called Microsoft Money Plus Sunset,  Deluxe, and Home & Business was provided. However, many of the prior versions will run under Crossover, with some tweaks. Probably most stable with Windows 7 or XP as the base bottle configuration.  

To set up "Install a Windows Application". Type name as "MsMoney" in box, Click on Unlisted application, Continue, Choose Installer Folder where your installation files are, then choose Installer File (as in setup.exe or autorun.exe).  Now Select Bottle as Win XP or 7 or Win 10, and name the bottle as MSMoney Bottle, before proceeding with Install "Edit Install Options"  and click + (beside revert - top right of screen). Select CrossOver HMTL Engine or the next IE 8 option  ... Add to add this option to the Bottle Configuration. (Will not install otherwise as needs IE6 or 8 components). Then Done. Now Install. You may then get an error message that there was a serious problem.  Just ignore and click Close.  Then MsMoney needs to add operating system components.  Click OK.  May then be offered Express or Custom Install.  Click the Express if that is offered. Next and MsMoney should then install.  Click Finish. That should be it.  When the program launches it may appear to freeze and do nothing for about 30 sec.  It is just thinking.  The same happens under Parallels.  But if the start up screen shows, it should be useable after 30 sec or so. Running on Mac under Mojave with Crossover 18.1.  Tested "MS Money Personal and Business  2002"  and MsMoney 2004.  UK versions.

I have tested it with the latest Crossover 19.0.1 with Catalina 10.15.3. The Bottle was a Win XP 64 bit with the addition of CrossOver HMTL Engine IE 8.  Used the setup.exe and Home & Business 2002.  Have used this program since 2003 !!!   It will install, and bring up the Start Screen but then nothing happens !  The Registry Entries need to be fixed.  With the MSMoney Bottle there is a run command icon, click and Open.  In the window then type Regedit.  This is to modify the Registry key entry.  Look for the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and go down to find Microsoft and Internet Explorer.  It is the IE keys that need to be changed - they will be 8.X.X.X  or some such number.  Change the three keys Version, Wk2version and svcVersion to 9.11.10240.0   That is it.  Should run then.

Do not forget that MSMoney is running in Virtualization Mode.  When going back to the main screen from any of the Modules, there is a delay.  It has to tidy up and exit the module. It is just thinking ! Not freezing !  Under Parallels the pause delay is 15 - 20 sec and with Crossover perhaps 35 sec.  Just be a little patient at this point.   

You can imaging the difficulty with porting all the information over to another Accounting Application.  And all the time one has invested in learning MSMoney.  All has to be done again with another program.  Worth persisting with this the best accounting package I have ever used.  And never spent a penny on it after 2003. !!  Just time invested.
