The tactical view shows the 3D world as it would look from the selected unit. Tactical view is less commonly used than strategic view, but really pays off during those final assaults when wiping out Federation bases (playing as Borg here).
Note that Borg have extensive tools to assimilate other races ships and add them to the collective. In fact each race has its own special units, tactics, and weapons.

The strategic view shows resources in a bar across the top, minimap at the bottom left, control panel which varies by unit selected, and minitactical view. Units may be selected by clicking on them, using keyboard shortcuts, or selecting a region on the screen with the mouse.

StarTrek Armada II is a real time strategy (RTS) game similar to Starcraft, but based in the Paramount / StartTrek universe. Playable races include Federation, Romulan, Klingon, Cardassian, Borg, and Species 8472. There are single player missions, instant action (both local network and against AI), and true multiplayer.
Crossover makes the install work the same as on a windows box, and provides a nice shortcut in the desktop folder.
