Left 4 Dead installs, runs, and plays just fine on Ubuntu 8.1 intrepid, AMD 4000 mghz athlon single core cpu 1.5 gig of ram, 8600 gt nvidia card.

This is a screen capture of the Left 4 Dead demo, as you can see, the background movie works (on rendering), however the menus do not appear and the console is completely blank.
You can still interact with the console and menus however...
