The BlackBerry development environment is an IDE from RIM that produces device specific code based on the Java language. It uses some native APIs in the Verify.exe. The reset of the application is mostly Java and thus not an issue to port. If this can be addressed then other IDEs should be easily ported such as the sprint/nokia/motorola apps.
