Greetings,
Well, the last time I tried playing The Ship in Crossover, it was choppy and slow. But since Crossover Games was released, I thought I'd try anew, and I am very glad I did. However, before I started to play, I realized the introduction video still does not work properly (I think the same problem exists in all Source games). So I had to set the startup option of "-novid". I will post this in Tips & Tricks.
Anyway, I got so swept up in playing that I forgot I was testing it! At a medium widescreen resolution of 1344 x 840 and default recommended settings, framerates held steady around 40. Depending on where I was, they even went beyond 60, and never dropped below 20. HDR was disabled by default, which is fine, as I've read Crossover has issues with that as of now. But one wouldn't even notice, as one is usually inside the ship anyway.
Sound was perfect. Graphics were crisp and the game was, visually, everything I'd expect it to be if running natively in Windows.
I got in some fights with other players, and everything went smoothly. I was able to react and fight back, and wasn't killed at all once I had joined in! I even was nearly killed while bathing - but was able to hop out of the tub and managed to defend myself! In simpler words, the game is running very nicely and is not hampering my ability to play in any way.
I gave the game a "Gold" rating. I could not find any problems at all. This will be my first Windows game that I will play exclusively in OS X. Great job!
Regards,
Brighid
P.S.
I am using, as stated, Mac OS X 10.4.11 and I have an Intel iMac (Early 2006) with a 2GHz Intel Core Duo, 2GB of RAM, and an ATI Radeon X1600 video card with 256MB VRAM.
