With a bit of work, you can get The Web to run and play under Crossover. To do so, do the following:
1: Create a Win98 bottle. The game will not work under any other.
2: Go to the Win98 bottle's C: drive. Create a folder for the game under Program Files. The path in my case is: C:\Program Files\Pro Pinball\The Web
3: From your original game CD, copy over the following files and folder to the newly created folder as above:
Menu.exe
Play.exe
WGame.exe
PC_DAT (folder)
4: Download the 1.50pwindows update for The Web and copy those contents to the folder that you made. These patched files will overwrite the existing one. Be sure you are getting the Windows-specific update. There is a v. 1.52 for DOS... you don't want this one.
5: Download the 1.50pwindows No-CD patch and apply that to the files in the folder that you made.
6: Run "Play.exe" from the Command Line option using the bottle you have been using for The Web. Set up your Options from here.
7: Once you've set the Options to your liking, re-run "Play.exe" and select "Menu". Once the in-game menu loads, go to Options again to adjust graphics and other options.
8: There are 3 ways to play the game:
a: Run "Play.exe" and select "Play" from the pop-up window (this will be full-screen and plays VERY fast)
b: Run "Play.exe", select "Menu", then from the in-game menu select "Play (the game will not play full-screen and will play a bit fast, though not quite as bad as the above option will.
c: Run "WGame.exe" (the game will be full-screen and VERY fast)
And there you have it. Current bugs:
a: Graphics distortion if you "nudge" the table and the visual feedback option is on.
b: Plays too fast
c: The game cannot recognize its own CD, thus a No-CD patch is required.
d: No music. This is because the game comes on a mixed data/music CD format. OS X mounts these types differently from the way Windows does, thus The Web cannot access the music tracks.
