RE: Known Issue - Mouse Scroll button Zoom/Out not working

I have an observation to make...

In pure Windows 98SE, I'm able to use the mouse wheel to zoom in/out. I have an MS optical wheel mouse. I'm also using the CD-ROM version of the program.

However, using the same version of the program, same mouse, but under WINE or even CrossOver Office, the mouse wheel does not zoom in/out.

I ruled out a Linux issue because I can also use the wheel on my mouse to scroll web pages.

Therefore, Linux itself does support the wheel of the mouse. Paint Shop Pro 8's zoom feature with the wheel does work (in it's native Windows Environment). This leaves the Win4Lin/WINE/CX Office.

I'm figuring that it could very well be that most emluation or Windows API layer programmers might not use the scroll wheel much so therefore that issue might not take priority over others to fix.

Another test would be to see if other windows programs also can use the scroll wheel while in Win4Lin/WINE/CX Office that are known to have scroll wheel support. One would be to browse a modest HTML file on your hard drive with Internet Explorer running in these emulators/layers and see if you can scroll the page with the mouse wheel. If not, it's obviously that whichever layer you're using (WINE or Win4Lin and it could be both) doesn't yet have coding in to support the mouse wheel.

Yes, Win4Lin seems to emulate the wheel very weird. When scrolling in Windows Explorer for example, the selection moves three folders down instead of the scrollbar.
The scrollwheel support in Wine also seems to be different from the Windows support. It only seems to work with scrollbars. With WineX and Black & White there are also many scrollwheel problems.

Hi !

I have just began to use paint shop pro 8.00 cd-version in my Xandros 2.0 deluxe with CrossOver Office.

In my setup the mouse wheel works smoothly, I had a problem with a usb mouse, but that was just a configuration problem.

Same for me with Win4Lin. The scroll button does nothing at all in PSP. I was starting to think it was just a Windows 98 problem, but after some tests it turns out it comes down to the way these apps emulate the windows scroll movements. I think it would be better, if possible to not emulate it but perhaps (if possible) to let Linux itself take over for scroll movements?

I don't see why it wouldn't be possible. For example in other emulators where the keyboard is obviously not an 'original' keyboard, or the mouse is not an 'original' mouse this works quite well. But there may be some underlying problems with Windows itself. Perhaps not.

Just my 2 cents.

Michael

Zoom scrolling works fine here. I have a default Logitech mouse, PS2.
One thing is that you should have your mouse pointer IN the drawing, not outside it. In Windows zooming works with your pointer outside the drawing, however, for me it does.
