How do I test framerate?

I've got L4D running nicely on my MBP 2.4gHz. How do I determine the framerate?

enable console and type this in

cl_showfps 1

or

net_graph 1

in l4d menu ,

go to option

keyboard/mouse

than

enable developer console

and click done

to use it , click the ~ button ...side the number 1 with the ! mark
