Tips in getting Hangul 2007 to install & load properly

Under CrossOver 8.0 and Leopard or Snow Leopard, Hangul 2007 can be installed provided that the user uses either HWPE.msi (English installer) or HWPK.msi (Korean installer) under 'Install' folder in the installation CD. Korean installer would have most of the Korean texts broken, but as long as you know what buttons to press, it will install just fine.

During the installation, near the end of the customization options just before file copying begins, a small dialog box may pop up telling the user to wait while it checks for available space, and just hangs there. Simply close the dialog box and proceed with install.

Once the program is finished installing, the installer may not terminate on its own if the English installer was used. If this is the case, just force completion of install.

User can update to the latest version of Hangul 2007 without problems using the updater, but an icon for this may not show up if one installed the program using the Korean installer. If this is the case, go to Programs > Run Command > Browse > Program Files > Common Files > Hnc > HncUtils > HncUpdate.exe > Open.

After all that's done, try loading Hangul 2007. It will load its main window, but you might notice that the menus would look weird, using a compressed, small font instead of the normal one. This happens if OS X's main language is not set to Korean. Go to 'International' (Leopard or older) or 'Language & Text' (Snow Leopard or later), and move '한국어' to the top under Language. Close and reload Hangul 2007. It will now display the menus correctly. Note that the menus will not be shown in English even if you used the English installer.

In my experience, Hangul 2007 under CrossOver 8.0 in Snow Leopard will be able to load most HWP files, big (200+ pages) or small, without problems. I don't see any rendering issues, and the integrated IME works fine, letting you switch between Korean and English with Shift-Space key combination. The only glaring problem so far is that the program can often crash if I attempt to insert and external file (e.g. pictures) into a document. The program may hang in the Open dialog box, or may crash after inserting a picture. Sometimes, it works, sometimes, it won't. Save your document before attempting any file-inserting operation.

Find cxbottle.conf at the root of the bottle, which is located under ~/Library/Application Support/CrossOver/Bottles/(Bottle Name). Open it with TextEdit and find [EnvironmentVariables].

Under it, add the following (including quotes):

"LANG" = "ko_KR.UTF8"

Save and close the file. Now the menus will display with correct font.
