It's been two weeks; we feel we owe everyone an update on our efforts to support 32 bit Windows applications on macOS Catalina, despite Apple's decision to terminate support for 32 bit applications.
I'm happy to announce that we have released the first beta version of CrossOver 19 on Friday, November 15, 2019 to our community of advocates and beta testers. Further, our alpha testing and other internal testing has gone well, so I am confident that we will have a final product ready before the end of the year.
Since our last update, we've made a range of improvements. The biggest one is adding back in better support for older versions of macOS. Fun fact: CrossOver now includes 3 versions of Wine. We include an old fashioned 32 bit build ('classic Wine') suitable for use on macOS versions before Catalina. We also include a 64 bit build, which provides support for 64 bit applications; we've been providing that for several years now. And then, finally, the 32 bit on 64 build ('new Wine'), which we use to make '32' bit bottles on Catalina.
We've also made a number of improvements to our support for Microsoft Office which we're happy to bring to our Linux customers.
If you are a customer that is running Catalina and you have an existing CrossOver install, please contact us to ask for access to this build.
If you are not running Catalina, or do not have any CrossOver installation, we recommend you stick with 18.5 for now. Now that our beta process is underway, we are on track to have a production quality version of CrossOver 19 before the end of the year. We recommend that you wait for the production release if you can.
