Mostly we code...sometimes we write. Every once in a while, we podcast.

Is Software Romantic
I'll be brutally honest with you.  I'm not good at Valentine's Day.  I'm just not good with holidays that I believe were created by Hallmark for the sole purpose of selling greeting cards.  To that point, I'm also not good at Mother's Day; Father's Day, or any of the second tier holidays (Columbus Day, Arbor Day, May Day, Earth Day, or President's Day).  But that's another blog altogether.  So as I sit at 4:30 PM on Valentine's Day wondering aloud as to what constitutes a romantic gift (and what can be acquired at this point), I am left to ponder the merits of software.  CAN SOFTWARE BE ROMANTIC?

If getting what you want for Valentine's Day is romantic and what you want is software, then I say 'yes' software can be romantic.  If being able to run Windows software on your Mac or Linux computer is what fuels your passion, then 'yes' software can be your burning flame.  If having the best of both worlds without having to have both worlds is the ideal setting for your perfect date, then 'yes' software can be romantic.  Maybe I am just speaking to my fellow geeks when I say that software can be as romantic as any flower, any chocolate, or any piece of jewelry you could deliver to the one you love, but I would appreciate getting software on this Hallmark of a holiday.

That's probably a big stretch.  Truth is that most software (while incredibly practical) just isn't sexy enough for a holiday devoted to red hearts.  And if I had to choose between software and something really sexy, say a bluetooth mouse, I'd have to pick the mouse (am I right my fellow geeks?).  But I think software lends itself to the adage that there is a time and a place for everything.  There is a time for romance and a time for practicality.  There is a time to play it safe and a time to walk on the wild side.  And while CrossOver may not be the perfect software, there is a time and a place to try CrossOver first.  And, I believe that time and place is President's Day...  Actually, that time and place is anytime you need to run one or two Windows programs on your Mac and want to save time and money in the process (saving money is sexy).  And if software is your idea of the most romantic gift imaginable, be sure to point your lover to www.codeweavers.com.  Because its always sexy to get what you really want!
