Hi all--
Dragon Naturally Speaking 9 (DNS9) looks like it will load on Crossover Professional (from Fall 2008 - Not sure of the exact release number);
It is a 2-disk installation, and I am trying to install it on Ubuntu 8.0.4 (Hardy Heron).
Disk 1 installs without a hiccup. When I get to the prompt to insert the second disk and open the drive, I get an error message about illegally unmounting the CD, and the installation crashes.
If anyone has an idea about how to get that second disk going, I'd appreciate a reply.
Thanks!
Trent T.
PS-- More comments, background, and step-by-step below:
I was able to get Dragon Naturally Speaking 7 to run on Xandros Pro 4 Linux about a year ago. It was a buggy solution:
I loaded Crossover Professional, and made a new bottle; Loaded Internet Explorer 6 for its DLL's-- and DNS 7 would not load to the bottle.
I had it loaded onto a Win XP laptop, so I reconstructed its directories from the Win XP laptop within the DNS 7 bottle and moved over a copy of all the files into these directories.
THEN, I tried to re-install DNS-7, and it worked!
The installation was buggy, and would only work for about 20 minutes at a time. Also I had to use the DragonPad as my dictation environment and then copy and paste the text over.
I am currently trying to get Dragon Naturally Speaking 9.0 for Windows XP to load on Ubuntu 8.0.4.
It looks like it will load;
I follow the same procedure;
I put Crossover Linux Professional (from Codeweavers) on the Ubuntu machine, then
created a new WinXP bottle.
I tried installing Internet Explorer 6 for its DLL's, but apparently Crossover Linux Professional already has them; My bottle reported that IEXP was already installed. Very mysterious!
Dragon Naturally Speaking 9 for Win XP (DNS9) has two installation disks.
The first disk appears to load without a problem, until I get to the prompt to insert the second disk-- When I open the drive, I get an error message about illegally unmounting the CD, and the installation crashes.
It may be possible to load the CAB files from disk 2 into the bottle before attempting to reinstall. Maybe I could get a 2nd CD drive, or copy the installation files from both disks onto a DVD...
If anyone knows a way to load that 2nd disk within Crossover, let me know.
DNS9 is a wonderful program which I use at work. It is best for writing long texts, and it gets more accurate the more you use it. Nuance, the company that makes it, allows each user to load the programs on as many machines as you want-- The license is sold per user, not per machine.
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions..
