I have a bottle that contains a couple of related apps installed as you would expect with an external installer exe. In addition, there are several related utilities that are just exes copied into the C drive of the bottle.
I run those apps using the "Run Command" button and then save them to the bottle's "desktop" (or whatever you call the windows of launchable icons associated with the bottle in Crossover).
The problem goes like this:
I have, on occasion, needed to delete a launcher command from the bottle. I can't find any way in the Crossover interface to do this. After poking around quite a bit, I have discovered that in the C drive of the bottle, I can find an EXENAME.lnk file and delete that. This seems pretty clunky.
If the exe doesn't have an associated icon, the launcher command will be created with a generic black-and-white gear command. I have 4 identical command icons on this bottle. I would like to be able to change the icon so I don't get confused as to what utility I am running.
Relatedly, the launcher command generates with the name of the exe file, which is not necessarily descriptive. I would like to be able to change the displayed name, again to be sure I know what utility I'm running.
How does one manage launcher commands? What am I missing?
Every time you use Run Command to create a Launcher, that not only creates an icon in your Crossover window but also creates a little MacOS-native application in ~/Applications/Crossover. Each of those little applications includes whatever launch parameters you chose when you created that Launcher using Run Command.
Crossover does not have an officially-supported way to delete or otherwise manage Launchers.
When I want to delete a Launcher, I do this:
–Quit out of Crossover.
–Open the ~/Applications/Crossover folder with the Finder.
–Drag the unwanted Launchers to the Trash (some might be nested in folders).
–Empty the Trash.
–Launch Crossover. Those Launchers will be completely gone.
You can change the name of a Launcher:
–Quit out of Crossover.
–Open the ~/Applications/Crossover folder with the Finder.
–Rename the Launcher or Launchers you wish to rename.
–Launch Crossover. The Launchers you renamed will display with the name you assigned in the Finder.
You can change the icon of a Launcher:
–Quit out of Crossover.
–Open the ~/Applications/Crossover folder with the Finder.
–Select one of your Launchers and do a GET INFO on that application. COMMAND-I is the simplest way.
–Copy the icon you wish to use to the Clipboard.
–Click once on the application’s icon in the Get Info window and PASTE the clipboard contents to it.
–Close the Get Info window.
–Launch Crossover. The Launcher whose Finder icon you changed will display in Crossover’s window with the icon you pasted into the Get Info window.
I admit I find it highly weird and kind of unprofessional that Crossover allows me to create something with a prominent button that I can neither edit nor delete. But the workaround is simple. Thanks!
