CrossOver Support - Community Forums

Hi all,

I am new to crossover and I just installed steam through it. I got my m1 max mbp last week and loving it so far and I'd like to try some games on it.
I recently bought Witcher 3 game from GOG galaxy and not from steam and I was wondering if there is a way to play it through crossover.

From a quick research on the forum I didn't find anything. Is there any tutorial or can someone help me install it?

You could install it using the Heroic Launcher, once they have fixed it. Currently it hangs on CrossOver.

For GOG games, you can download the offline installers and use those to install the games in CrossOver. Sadly, GOG Galaxy does not currently work well on CrossOver Mac.

As for Heroic, it's possible newer versions have bugs with CrossOver, but we tested with version 1.10.3 and it worked well.

I have downloaded all the bin's and the 2 .exes for the Witcher 3 from gotg.com and put them in a folder, and then started Crossover. For the bottle I selected Wild Hunt as the program, and the folder with all the downloaded parts as the installation files.

It started to install, and it did install, but it has gone awry in two ways:
1) after install I can immediately launch the game - that worked but, then it crashed after all the cinematics in the opening bathtub scene
2) picking exit and not launch so the process could finish as well after hard quitting after scenario 1 I have the same problem: the crossover bottle shows a support icon, an uninstall icon but no item to launch the game.

An attempt to use a copy of the installed version in the crossover c directory - the folder "witcher 3 wild hunt GOTY" - as a starting point for a crossover bottle, either the folder or just the witcher3.exe both failed.

In short: how does one get a game launch icon after downloading all the offline files through gog.com?

A more detailed explanation then "install the games in crossover" would be much appreciated. With a max specced M1 air I should be able to run it hardware-wise.

[i]update: I got it t work by making a shortcut in the command line to the witcher3.exe. Is this also the way to patch games and install other games that are downloaded in parts?

It seems like you’ve successfully installed the game. Similarly, I used CrossOver to install the game by Selecting the installer and use “Choose Installer File…” to use the main game installer “setup_the_witcher_3_wild_hunt_goty1.31(a)_(9709).exe”.

Once completed, You can then use the Run Command to run the 1.32 patch installer using the “Run Command” with the newly created Witcher 3 bottle.

GOG’s GOTY game installer for some reason does not create the Witcher 3 shortcut properly for me too. So same as you, I too had to create a new launcher on Crossover to witcher3.exe.

One thing to remember, make sure to disable the Nvidia Hairworks settings in the Video -> Graphics settings. Otherwise, the game will crash immediate as soon as you it tries to render any character.
