How do I install a simple exe? (i.e. no installer app needed)

I've read all the info here and combed the crossover program for an option to simply install a .exe program to no avail.

I'm trying to use SHAREPOD. this program, in regular windows is simply copied to the place you want to keep it (I usually keep it in the desktop). Anytime you want to use it you simply double click it and use it.

I can'y find a way to build an .app file to make such a program available from the Applications folder in Mac.

Has anyone here sorted this out?

Hi,

Create a new bottle (or use an already existing bottle if so desired), and
copy the .exe file into that bottle structure. For example, if you create a
new bottle named Test you would copy the .exe to the following path..;

~/Library/Application Support/CrossOver/Bottles/Test/drive_c/Program Files/

With Crossover running, go to the Crossover menu -> Programs -> Run Command

Select the bottle involved, and then use the Browse function to navigate to
the .exe file you copied into the bottle above. Click Open, then Save Command
to Programs Menu -- this will create a menu shortcut to your .exe you can
invoke from the menu....

Cheers!

Once you have a bottle, you can run the .exe file in a number of ways. (To create a bottle, select Manage Bottles from the Configure menu. Then, click the plus ('+') button in the lower left. A bottle is a virtual Windows environment.)

1) You can make the bottle your default bottle on the Advanced tab of Manage Bottles. Then, opening a .exe file with CrossOver will run it in that bottle. If CrossOver is the only application which handles .exe files, then you can just double-click the .exe file. If there are other apps, you'll have to use the Finder to configure which app you want to handle .exe files (or even each specific .exe file).

2) You can use CrossOver's Run Programs dialog, accessible from the Programs menu, to run the program in the bottle of your choice. Once you have a combination of bottle and command that works for your needs, you can save that to the Programs menu (which also creates a launcher mini-application in your Programs folder).

3) From CrossOver's File menu, you can select Open to open the .exe file. The file-selection dialog gives you the choice of which bottle to use. Your recently-opened files, including which bottle to use, are remembered for easy access.

Note that none of these requires that you copy the .exe file into the bottle. You may do that, if you wish, or if the Windows program needs to be in a specific location on the C: drive. There's a button in the Advanced tab of the Manage Bottles window to open a bottle's C: drive folder in the Finder.

Excellent!
Thanks a lot.
It is actually a very straightforward procedure once you get the hang of CO...

ok, now on to the next problem.
The program I am trying to get running is Sharepod (www.getsharepod.com)
For it to run it needs to have the iPod connected and available BEFOREhand.

So, how do I plug the iPod and make it available to the CrossOver envirnment?

In general how do I share HW devices like this?

This might be tricky, because Sharepod relies on being able to see the 'system' directories that are not visible in OS X. When I plug the iPod in Windows then all these are visible:
Artwork
Device
Games_RO
iTunes
Music
Tones
._Artwork
._Device
._Games_RO
._iTunes
._Music
iPodPrefs
