I went to open Steam to play a relaxing game of AOE2 but steam updated when i opened it and now i get this message whenever i open steam. I've tried the "clear and rebuild programs" and "repair bottles" in the configure tab. I've also tried to reinstall steam in a new bottle. None of these have worked for me. I have not tried to delete the bottle and reinstall from scratch yet, mostly concerned my hotkeys in the game might reset. it's my next step if i don't learn of a better solution sooner.
I'm having the same issue — the Steam update simply won't run no matter what after I updated it today. Tried new bottles and fresh installs, etc. If I inspect the activity monitor I can see that "steamwebhelper.exe" is running lots of processes:https://share.zight.com/geuDLZj1
Glad to hear I'm not alone. I just uninstalled/reinstalled crossover altogether, still not working. Maybe crossover needs to patch something on their side? not sure. I've seen old threads with this same issue, so I'm assuming it gets resolved at some point. Looks like were not gaming tonight :(
Key questions: have people put tickets in? The more they get from various systems, the faster they will review and start to patch. I've not updated because I don't want the problems :(
ya i sent a message in the contact us page just now. it was kinda hard to understand what you meant by ticket in older threads. There isn't a "submit support ticket" option anywhere on the site. I think i figured out what you mean though.
This got steam working for me, but unfortunately I had already deleted my steam bottle to do a fresh install.
Before doing this, I moved my steamapps folder to my desktop, and I can see that the game files are still in there.
But when I open Steam, it says I have to reinstall the games, which means they are being redownloaded even though I have the files on my system already.
So I have two questions:
(1) Do I need to run with options now every time to get the Steam Web Helper to launch, or after doing the fix can I just run as normal?
(2) Can I access or move the game files back into my new steam install and avoid duplicating the downloads on my system (if so, how do I do this)?
Thanks in advance for any insights or help you can provide.
Thanks for the update, but this is seriously frustrating. All I wanted was a good 30 minute break during a stressful work day to play Elden Ring, and I spent 2 hours troubleshooting why all of a sudden my games don't work. It makes me want to buy a PC for my next computer =-(
Mine worked, but the Steam windows did take some time to show.
After I updated, I showed a message in yellow below the "Bottle Type" and "Status" info with something like "install required packages". After I clicked on it, it updated the Steam app.
Now when I open Steam, it shows as "Steam" in the toolbar instead of "steamhelper..."
I did not tried to open Steam before install these packages, so I don't know if this is the fix.
I just downloaded the 25.0.0 version and now steam can launch, but it's just a blank when I downloaded and turned on cs2... Anyone has the same problem?
got the same, CS2 just stuck me at the "VALVE" screen and keep crashing
i got the problem since i upgraded to crossover25.
