Crossover and iCloud Drive

This may be stupid to read, but this is it.

I want to use Crossover, but I don't have that much storage on the disk. I paid for my iCloud drive to get 2TB, and I wanted to know if I would be able to run it from the iCloud drive. I wouldn't care if it was 2FPS or something like that, but just for some light work. If that is possible, I would greatly appreciate it. If it isn't, I will just try and find an external drive and work something out.

It's not a stupid question but doing it is a very bad idea. No matter how good your connection to the Internet at large and to iCloud servers specifically, there is simply no way the data transfer between your system and an application will be good enough for decent operation. Windows Notepad? Sure, whatever. Quicken? No. Diablo IV or any other game beyond NetHack? HECK no.

Get an external SSD. It doesn't even have to be a particularly fast one, even USB 3.0 speeds (5Gbps) is good enough for most things short of professional media work. You can put the Crossover application on the external drive and you can configure Crossover to use the external drive rather than its default location in your boot volume's active user's home folder for its bottles. https://support.codeweavers.com/change-the-bottle-directory-in-crossover-mac#:~:text=Go%20to%20the%20CrossOver%20%3E%20Settings,the%20default%20location%2C%20click%20Reset.

ok, thanks for your reply. As of doing this, I tried to configure it for iCloud, and I must say, im surprised my Mac wasn't cooking at this rate. My CPU was at 50% (with only crossover running, and it crashed a few times), RAM was at 60%, and my temps were at a cool 45 degrees C. I did manage to get Steam to install, but that itself took a while, and it crashed while logging in. This was an experiment to see whether it would work, but when I was installing Steam, it said I had 40GB left, which was my Hard Drive. I guess i better to scrolling though amazon got a good SSD LOL

Please Note: This Forum is for non-application specific questions relating to installation/configuration of CrossOver. All application-specific posts to this Forum will be moved to their appropriate Compatibility Center Forum.
