Agreed. I have finally got backed-up enough to risk the OS upgrade (long pause to acquire new back-up disc, or I'd have done it when I first posted) and am on 14.7.2. Crossover now makes and fills bottles as expected.
If any of you are still having problems when it comes to bottle scanning, it might be because of your antivirus. I had Malwarebytes quarantining files during Crossover installation and disabled that feature before clean reinstalling Crossover. It solved the problem and bottles are now ready to use.
