I want to log onto FaceBook through a Windows web browser, by using Crossover on my Mac.
I have downloaded the latest Crossover for Mac (20.0.4) and have tried installing a web browser (Mozilla Firefox 45). I can't seem to find any browser that is at all recent, they are all 4 years old++
Because if this, when I log into FaceBook the experience is highly compromised and the performance is terrible.
Am I missing something very obvious? I would have thought that Chrome would have been tested (no recent versions) or Firefox. But it seems like there is no support for these.
Good question. I am doing some testing to see if FaceBook recognises the login as coming from a Windows PC, as opposed to from a Mac (which I am working on).
We don't do any testing or support for web browsers like Firefox or Chrome since the native versions work well on Mac and Linux. For your workflow, I'd suggest changing your user agent in the native browser of your choice.
I have what I think is a legitimate need for this.
I have a Harmony Universal remote. They no longer support Mac based software since the 64 bit upgrade of MacOS. I need to run an emulated PC browser so I can get to the Harmony Website to download and install the software (under Crossover) to control my remote. Just FYI - when I try to access the Harmony site from any Mac browser, it seems to be smart enough to recognize I'm on a Mac and won't let me download the Windows executable. So I need to run a browser under Crossover that seems to be a PC based browser. I've installed Firefox 45 but it's stuck at "Connecting..." for any site I try to access.
Like I suggest above, changing your user agent in the native macOS version of the browser of your choice should make it possible to download your application. I have to do this frequently in order to download Windows applications myself.
Best,
Meredith
