CrossOver 20 and Office 365: blank window when connecting to Microsoft Account

I'm not getting the blank activation window issue any more (Ubuntu 21.04), however I still can't get past the "Upgrade your browser... Looks like your browser isn't up-to-date. To continue, upgrade to the latest version of Microsoft Edge or your current browser." problem! All I want to do is to type in my password to complete the MS activation sequence. Where does this issue now stand? Is there a simple fix that will allow me to actually activate Office 365 or not? Using these tools is really the only reason I bought Crossover in the first place and it's REALLY frustrating not to be able to use them. PLEASE HELP!!!

Thanks. A frustrated (but very long standing) customer.

Hi Ted,

We have several threads about this issue, and this one didn't get updated with the latest news. This issue was due to updates made on Microsoft's end to the installer, and we had to make code changes of our own to accommodate them. The error about upgrading your browser will be fixed with CrossOver 21, and our BetterTesters can use the latest nightly builds to see the fix.

Best,
Meredith

Thanks, Meredith. Any ETA for version 21? Also, do you have any short term solution to getting it activated now? I'm afraid it's pretty useless to me as it is without being able to use the Office tools for more than 3 days between installs. ☹️

Cheers,
//Ted

Hi Ted,

ETA for CrossOver 21 is this summer. There's no short term solution available, as this required quite a bit of development on our end. Some people are having luck exiting Office after installation, and then finding it's automatically activated after relaunching, but that doesn't work for all accounts.

If you're not already a BetterTester, you can sign up to access our nightly builds, which do have the fix.

Best,
Meredith

Hello,
Where did you downloaded the install file? On my MS account is impossible (I have a business account from my university).

Hi there -

I'm looking into this, but I am unable to reproduce what you're
seeing. I'm on Ubuntu 20.0.4 using CrossOver 20, and I've installed
Office 365 using the .exe installer I downloaded from office.com.
Once it's installed, I'm opening up an application and am able to
enter the email address, and then the password on the next screen.

Can you tell me more about the process you followed? What type of
account are you using, and what installer? Where did the installer
come from? If you logged into the site to download the installer,
are you using the same login once you're trying to access Office?
Also, what bottle type did you use to install?

Thanks,

Samantha

Thanks, activation works in Crossover nightly build 20210612 on ubuntu 21.04 (running in the xorg session).
In a few minutes of testing, Excel appears stable, which is my most important test.

Note: this problem affects only users with an individual subscription; this type of subscription only allows Edge for sign-in to the Microsoft account.

I did not need to reinstall Office (my install was via the online installer).

Getting error 0x80070426 on Ubuntu 20.04, crossover 21.0.0-1

I have tried the suggestions above to solve the problem related to a blank window that prevents the user from signing in but none of them has worked. I have solved the issue as follow.

  • Install Office 2016.
  • Open MS Word and Sign in using your email.
  • Now, keep MS Word open and with some magic of Microsoft Office Update, the software will automatically upgrade and install Office 365 (This will take some time depending on your internet speed).
  • Now, you have an activated office 365.
