Howdy! A buddy gifted me Prey for xmas. It says I can run it but I need the install file. Is this solved by running steam in crossover and installing it that way? If not, I need some direction.

Hey, if you got it gifted on Steam, yes, then you install Steam and there your games. Usually one bottle per game, but with steam I prefer one Steam bottle.
If you buy games for yourself, gog is a great resource to get DRM free games. But you should try install steam in a bottle and then install the game there.
