Windows apps on ARM based Macs ?

Apologies if this has been asked before (I'd be a bit surprised if it hasn't...) but can CrossOver Mac run Windows (Intel) apps on the newer, ARM based Macs? I'm aware that Microsoft has released an ARM based version of Windows but AFAICT, hardware drivers are rarely available. Obviously the needed hardware is supported (keyboard / monitor / mouse) but the last time I looked, even sound wasn't yet supported. So how well is CrossOver working on the newer machines, if at all?

Hey, if you're talking about normal windows application, they work (in general) fine on Apple Silicon (ARM Chips, M1-M4).
For a specific program, you can have a look at https://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility.
I just started using a mac(book) and it works fine for programs I use (like irfan view) and some games, but not all (like the epic game store and games I have there, are not working at all at the moment).

The Windows ARM release is, as far as I know, not really relevant for wine/crossover. This is important for virtual machine usage like Parallels.

Thanks dura - you've reminded me that I did try Parallels many years ago and while it was a bit on the slow side, it was good in the sense that it allowed all of Windows to run (i.e. stuff like Windows Explorer / Control Panel / Device Manager etc). Presumably CrossOver wouldn't support them because it doesn't have Windows itself installed?

That's correct. In Theory this would run, but I have no idea if they do and there wouldn't be that much use to it.
In the GUI of crossover you can set some stuff you would set in the control panel, but most of it is not useful in this environment.
Wine, which is the base of Crossover, "just" translate function/api calls so that it will work on Mac/Linux.
I heard good of Parallels, but didn't test it myself because of the heavy price and for most games at home I have a Desktop which I also can connect to via moonlight and stream games. But Crossover works good for local use :)

Thanks again dura - BTW, should this site be sending me emails when someone replies to me? I can't find anything wrong in my preferences (and I've also checked my spam folder) but so far, it hasn't sent anything - not even an acknowledgement email when I first signed up :(

Hey, I'm not sure, but as far as I found out while searching you can only subscribe a forum and get all posts/answers in this forum (like here the CrossOver Mac forum): https://www.codeweavers.com/account/edit?inp=lists (Edit Accounts -> Forum Subscriptions)
I didn't find any option to get a notification for replies or comments on specific posts. :(

Please Note: This Forum is for non-application specific questions relating to installation/configuration of CrossOver. All application-specific posts to this Forum will be moved to their appropriate Compatibility Center Forum.
