I have the same problem as well. I've look through some other posts, but they all just seems to find a workaround in the game itself, like rebinding the key or so. I've tried two games so far, "People Playground" and "Besiege". In both games, right shift seems to be confused with left shift. When you press right shift it just function as left shift. I can certainly change the key bind to solve this problem, but I do sincerely hope that someone can come up with a way to solve this problem permanently.
Are you using an Apple keyboard or a keyboard from any other manufacturer?
I use an application called BetterTouchTool to map the keys of my mouse to do various useful things. For example, in most applications the thumb button is set to act as the COMMAND modifier key. In WINE games (including games in Crossover) the thumb button is set to act as the SHIFT modifier key.
There is one game I play – The Lord of the Rings Online – which recognizes the thumb button as the SHIFT modifier key when I enter text – not that I'd ever do that instead of using the SHIFT key on the keyboard while writing, but it works. However, the thumb button is not recognized as the SHIFT modifier key for the game's keybinds: For example, I might use the 1 button to trigger a combat skill and SHIFT-1 to trigger some other combat skill. But this only fails to work with Apple keyboards, and only with this one game. Any third-party keyboard or any other game even with an Apple keyboard allows me to use the mouse's thumb button as the SHIFT modifier key in combination with any keyboard key for that game's keybinds.
