xbox controller

currently i am using crossover to run orange box on my macbook pro and it runs awesome thank you. One thing ive been trying to do though is see if i can use and xbox controller to play halflife and all the orange box games. ive tried to download the driver from microsoft.com but i get an error message "unable to find volume for file extraction". is is possible to use an xbox controller for games played using crossover?

Joysticks and similar devices currently do not work on the Mac. You cannot use the original Windows driver either because CrossOver does not support Windows drivers - we can only access devices via the Mac driver.

That said, I think MacOS should recognise the Xbox controller as a normal gamepad. At least Linux does. We have some joystick code under development, so it may work in the next crossover version, if MacOS recognises your controller.

ok cool cause i have a driver to use the xbox controller on mac programs but i realized i probably needed a windows driver to use it on the windows games i play using crossover but if the windows drivers arent supported then i cant but thats ok. when is the expected date to release the new crossover?

Go here to download the XBOX 360 Drivers for Mac, it hasn't been updated in awhile but it can do a lot of things so far:

For me, I use a program called ControllerMate:

which has a steep learning curve on using it, but you can configure it to do a lot of things after you learn to use it. Including having your xbox 360 controller emulate a keyboard and mouse on Crossover applications.

The one difficulty with it is that it does not give direct joystick support, which limits some of the analog controlling in games that require analog, thus it is definitely not a permanent solution. Personally, I'd be really really happy once Crossover gets Mac OS X gamepad/joystick support.
