Crossover Quit Unexpectedly (M1 Macbook Air)

Hi, I recently got my first mac and wanted to run digital works software using wine. I downloaded CrossOver Trial and moved it to the applications folder, I went in to Security & Preferences and unlocked it. I go to open CrossOver and it immedietly hits me with quit unexpectedly. I attached the details of the crash below. I'm running 11.6 Big Sur. Thank you.

Hi there,

I'm not sure what you mean by "I went in to Security & Preferences and unlocked it."

If you download CrossOver, unzip it, double click to launch in your Downloads folder and then follow the prompt to move it to Applications if desired, it should just work. Do you happen to be running antivirus software?

Best,
Meredith

Sorry I'm not incredibly well versed with Mac OS terminology. When I opened the CrossOver application for the first time it prompted me and told me that it is an unknown developer, so I had to press the unlock button and then the "Open anyway" button because the program is not from an identified developer.

Where did you download the trial from? Our CrossOver release builds are all notarized and should not throw that error message, so I'm a little concerned you're seeing it.

Best,
Meredith

Im sorry I think I was mistaken, I guess I did that for another WINE thing I downloaded which also happened to not work haha, I think it was wineskin. I downloaded the trial straight from this codeweavers website, so rest assured I have the legit version.

Then please explain exactly what you did with CrossOver that led to it crashing. And are you running any anti-virus?

Meredith

It is a brand new MacBook so I don't have much on it. There is no anti-virus unless it comes with one out the box but I don't think it does. I just redownloaded it to verify my steps.

  1. Downloaded CrossOver 21.1.0
  2. Unpacked from the ZIP
  3. Moved the app to the applications folder and opened
  4. Prompted "CrossOver" is an app downloaded from the internet, I press open
  5. Crash with error log from above

My only suggestion would be to delete it from Applications, then unzip again and launch from Downloads and then follow the prompts to move to Applications. If that doesn't work, please submit a support ticket.

Meredith

I'm getting the exact same thing on my new mac m1. I download it, doubleclick and it says it quit unexpectedly.

Hi Rita,

Did you follow my suggestions above? If the issue persists, please enter a ticket so someone from our support staff can assist.

Best,
Meredith

Perhaps as its a new MacBook you should have installed Rosetta 2...did you received the prompt for Rosetta 2 the first time you tried to run an intel app?

Otherwise try as follows;
Open terminal
softwareupdate --install-rosetta

Accept agrements terms and install, then retry to run Crossover.
