Fake 256-color mode?

Is there a way to make applications think that it is running in 256-color (8bpp) mode? I think I nearly have a Windows game working in CrossOver Games, but it keeps wanting to run in 256-color mode. That mode pretty much doesn't work under Linux and OS X.

Could you tell me exactly which game this is you're referring to please?

We do emulate 8bpp mode, but the emulation is imperfect. The application can see through that if it asks the right question.

Furthermore there's no way to start an app with the display set in 8 bpp mode - the app has to set 8bpp mode, for example via directdraw or user32 APIs.

Please Note: This Forum is for non-application specific questions relating to installation/configuration of CrossOver. All application-specific posts to this Forum will be moved to their appropriate Compatibility Center Forum.
