Thanks for bringing this title to my attention Josh! I've been looking for something just like this,
if not only because I'm a keen driving sim addict, then also because it's another of those
cross-platform titles wherein the windows port is more actively maintained than the other ports
available...plus it makes a useful testing target in the opengl/video driver context way. (I actually
like the control setup interface and the feedback it provides...this thing will help me nut-out bits
of the linux game-controller dig I'm into around here.. 😉
Regarding the error you mention...well, I've just had a quick check of this with the currently
testing beta of the upcoming COG 8 release, and I'm not seeing this problem with loopback
(localhost)....ie; I can start a local game no problem. What I cannot do, is host a network game
because it thinks I have to add UDP forwarding to :25000 to allow that to be so...and I also can't
see/join any network external games, although it does connect to the .nl server ok...and so I'm figuring
this is all co-related....
I haven't had a decent enough go at it yet tho'....but I might enter it into the C4 database at any rate,
and keep tabs on it there. When I find the time, I'll check it out more thoroughly...oh!, and to answer your
question, no...crossover/wine doesn't use any different IP for loopback (localhost)...
Yes, it's interesting. There is a Cider port of 0.6.5 of this game that doesn't have this error. Although CX can run the 0.8.3 version, and I can't hack Cider to run anything newer than 0.6.5 I found that if you choose 'Join' in racer on CX, and enter 'localhost', it works!

Yeah, localhost is the correct value and as you discovered it works.
The issues I have joining an internet hosted game are all mine -
this machine is 2 network segments away from my ADSL gw, which means
I'd have to port_forward :25000 at the router to my firewall, and then
do some ip_chains there to get the data to this machine...but some idiot
(put my own hand up) has forgotten the router passwd (I never usually
need to touch it)..so I need to either get those synapses working again
or do the factory_reset_thang at the router and reconfigure. Right now
I'm too lazy to think about that, but a quick looksee with wireshark
confirms packets are being presented, so I believe everything is otherwise
ok and working...
Perhaps I'll attack te router (or my brain B) this weekend...
