I installed an app which CrossOver found in it's predefined list (and is literally a single executable) and it works well. Now I found there's an update, but CrossOver still points to the previous version download. Is this supposed to update to the latest soon, or do I need to uninstall first?

If the app doesn’t update itself of give you the option to have it update itself when you run it, download the updater or the new installer and use RUN COMMAND… from your bottle to run the updater or new installer. Alternatively, create a new bottle, install whatever frameworks are installed in your existing bottle, duplicate the bottle settings; then install the updated app into the new bottle. The latter is better because if something goes wrong your original bottle with the working but older version of the app remains unchanged.
