Help! - "steam.exe main exception unable to load library steam.dll"

I've just downloaded Crossover Games 8.0 to use on my Macbook using Snow Leopard 10.6 because I've heard that some games on Steam work great with the system, and there's a few I've been dying to play for some time. Anyway, after installing Crossover Games, I installed the "Steam via download" program. I went through all the setup windows, and finally at the end, when it said it was completely installed with no errors detected, a window popped up saying "steam.exe main exception unable to load library steam.dll". Every time I try to open steam it says this. I tried reinstalling everything and disabling my firewall, restarting every time, but still I get the same thing! What can I do? I'd love to figure this out because I haphazardly bought a game through steam and now can't seem to play it. Thanks!

This could be caused by just about anything...

Basically, the steam.exe file is corrupted. You should be able to work around this by going to http://steampowered.com and finding the steam.msi installer.

Then, choose to install 'Steam' through CrossOver but select the 'advanced' install method and point CrossOver at the msi installer.

If you continue to have problems please open a support ticket or send an email to info@codeweavers.com.

Actually, this error may even indicate that your firewall settings are too strict to allow Steam to access Valve's servers. Try disabling your firewall to see if the problem goes away.
