So - I've been running GTA V on my M1 Max, and it works amazingly. However, during one of the first missions, the app freezes and crashes hard every single time I play it. (Specifically, the mission "Repossession".) It happens every time a bunch of NPCs show up and combat begins. At an earlier point during the mission, a group of hostile NPCs drives past - if I try punching their car to get them angry, the game freezes up then, as well. So I'm guessing it has something to do with enemy AI, if that sounds familiar?
I'm currently running 21.1 - I ran it a while back running the nightlies and didn't have this crash, so it seems like a new thing. Any suggestions on things I should try?
Hi Joe,
You can try lowering your graphics settings and see if that helps out at all. Unfortunately, crashes like this can also happen on Windows, so it's really tough to diagnose the problem :/

I have the same issue (maxed out Macbook Pro M1 Max with 64GB RAM), Crossover 21.1.0.33869, current Steam version of GTA V. Even when reducing graphics settings to DirectX 10, 1024x768 and no anti aliasing, the mission "Repossession" crashes reproducibly during the fight.
Same here. Lowered the graphics all the way and it crashes at the exact same place spot in that mission, so I can't get past this mission at the start of the game.
I saved the crash logs, maybe that helps:

Thank you @dombi. Your comment was super helpful in getting past this crash.
If you fail a mission three times, the game offers you the option to skip the section.
So before hopping the fence, just drive off and fail the fence section by abandoning your friend.
Then you will skip to the garage section. At first I tried to die, but it didn’t work for me as the game always crashed before I could die three times.
What worked consistently was running out of the garage to the right, climbing on the garage and then jumping the fence to outside of the mission area. Keep running until the mission fails because your friend died.
Repeat it three times and then you will skip to the bike chase, which doesn’t trigger the crash.
I have been playing for about an hour since then and haven’t experienced another crash.
Another tip is to install dxvk with async patch for less stutters.
It's crazy that it's been two years since this thread was started and this issue is still unsolved.
