Is it possible to downgrade back to 22.x releases and try 23 again later.. Or have all of my bottles been updated to 23 so that using 22 is a non-starter and requires reinstall? Frankly I'm having too much trouble getting 23 to work.

Yes, downgrading is always an option. I would of course suggest you open a support ticket if you have not done so already.
