Hi, I updated Diablo IV and Battle.Net, but when I click 'Play', it goes to 'launching' and then 'updating', and after that, it goes back to 'play' without launching the game. Does anyone have a clue as to why this is happening?

Hi Jorge,
We need more info to help troubleshoot. What macOS version are you running? What version of CrossOver are you running?
Best,
Meredith
Sonoma 14.0 and Crossover Version 23.5 in a 14 MacBook Pro M2 Pro
Are you using D3DMetal? Does it make a difference either way?
Meredith
Have you tried turning on D3DMetal and ESync?
I had a similar problem with Crossover 2.1.1, with GPTK, but turning on ESync resolved it. I'm just trying Crossover 23.5 for the first time, and Battle.net and Diablo IV launched. There was one minor issue. I got an Application Unexpectedly Quit notice (from Wine/Windows), but the game is running, seemingly without issue. This might have been because I have Battle.net to quit automatically after launching a game.
I'm using an M1 Pro 14" MBP, running the release version of Sonoma.
I think they've pushed a Battle.net app update recently, it might be worth updating/reinstalling the Battle.net app.
I’m new to crossover, but i wondered how crossover actually works.
I am no tech expert, I tried to install Diablo 4 manually with whisky and gptk. But I failed in the end.
Now I want to try crossover, and ask the question is it much easier than doing it manually?
What exactly needs to be done with crossover?
-Buy crossover
-Download and install crossover
-Follow the simple steps just by clicking ‘next’, ‘accept’ and ‘ok’, like any other windows/Mac software?
Is it really that simple?
If yes, then I will buy crossover today
Confirmed, crossover does it all
I can start Diablo 4 now by enable D3DMetal and ESync together.
If it's still not work for you, try re-install Battle.net client too.
i have several hours played now, and all of the sudden wine debugger starts shutting the game down before it even starts, sometimes is crashes when logging in, sometimes I make it into the character selection.
I did a scan and repair several times, doesn't help.
turning Esync and/or D3Dmetal on or not does not affect anything.
i restarted the bottle with 'simulate restart bottle', now the error is the game "cannot update, usually this is because you did not login as administrator".
there was no battle-net update, there was no dia4 update, I did not update macOS either, everything was the same when I played the game.
macOS Sonoma 14.0
what to do?
does re-installing the battle net app delete the game as well?
I if re-install the battle net app, do I need to install the whole crossover thing again also?
I just fresh install new Diablo 4 bottle (remove old bottle and install new one)
take me a few hours but it's worth, everything worked again with D3DMetal & Esync enabled
Thx for the info.
When I started working with crossover, it took like 15 minutes. Exclusive downloading dia4.
How can it be a few hours for a reinstall then?
I’m not a pc technician, is it possible to get a step by step explanation how to remove bottles and stuff, or a video how to, without actually removing the game cause I don’t want to spend hours on downloading the game again
after a whole episode of can't playing the game because wine or whatever software is doing this, says I need to be logged in at administrator, I removed it all and installed from scratch.
played the game for a few days, and all of the sudden it has errors again.
so I removed it all again, and did another fresh install of crossover 23.5 + battle net + diablo 4
and now I get the message I need at least windows version 1909....
checked crossover app and it says windows 10 - 64 bit, so all should be fine...
I played like this for days, and now it's broken even before I start, what is this magic?
any workarounds?
Yo,just change bottle settings to Win11.
I had same issue, changed to win11 and D4 was started
A suggestion for people who need to remake or reinstall bottles... install Diablo IV (or any game for that matter) into a directory outside your bottle. Could be a folder called "Games" in your user directory, for example. That way, if you have to reinstall Battle.net or Steam, etc. you can just tell it to find the game there instead of redownloading a huge game. In Battle.net, it lets you specify what folder to search for games upon a reinstall. For steam, you can add another location as one of the designated areas to install games in the settings under settings->storage.
