So, I came across this video today: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vSOr5rdsk4
It explains how to get Steam for your Mac free of charge without using BootCamp or CrossOver Games.
Well, from the start I was skeptical about it and think I rightfully was.
This kid found it off a site called snow-leopard.ning.com and I highly doubt these people are in association with you guys, especially since they're hosting a free download to what I'm sure is CrossOver Games.
The site even has directions on how to access the C drive files saying: "To Access all the C Drive Files on this Mac Version:
Right Click on the app and Click Show Package Content - Click -
Contents>SharedSupport>CrossOverGames>Support>Default>Drive C>Program Files>Steam"
So, they're pretty bad at pretending they made their own program. :\
Aside from that, there were many similarities in this kids video demoing this supposed program; the scrollbar in the Steam controll panel is buggy and the font (as this kid mentioned) isn't the greatest <- both of which are known problems in CrossOver Games.
So anyways, I just wanted to get this out there if you weren't aware of it yet.
I saw that too. I downloaded it and it worked good. The only thing was i couldnt get left 4 dead 2 to play and natural selection to download so i uninstalled it and i bought crossover games. it works good but im a crossover games person now lol.
Further proof it's either Crossover or at least the Wine project (which is open source and free btw) the guy in that video had littlesnitch and when steam tried to connect to the internet it said "Steam via WINELOADER" which is what my little snitch displays when I create new bottles to test apps...
So I'm thinking you are right in saying it's a ripped crossover games however technically it is free to run these apps on macs since the wine project is free and open-source (however using crossover is not free due to it's stability, ease of use, etc. (kinda like how mac os X is based of an open source UNIX system but costs money))
just my two cents
EDIT: I'm currently Downloading the app and I'll let you know just how much of a crossover rip-off it is...
2nd Edit: So I DLed the app and opened up the contents. It looks like they basically Built a bottle with steam installed on it in crossover games 8 and placed the bottle in a Cider Ported App. How legal is this? Not sure. Since Cider's permissions are unknown to me and technically it's not crossover games but a bottle created in crossover games... hmm... perhaps someone with insight to Cider Ports should look at it. I'm somewhat vague on the details.
Yeah I looked more into the app and found the app components of CrossOver Games in it so yeah... kind of ironic that the ad says "play without bootcamp or crossover games" when it needed crossover to play it anyway...
