So whenever I go into steam I always get this popup that asks if I want to install Gecko but when I try it says there has been a serious error. I'm on my mac book pro and dont know a lot about Wine or how exactly Crossover works so if someone could give me a walkthrough that would be great.
CrossOver should install Wine Gecko for you when you install Steam. (Or rather a slightly adapted version). Did you install Steam via CrossOver, or did you copy/run a steam installation from somewhere else(e.g. a Boot Camp partition)?
When I first installed Steam I was given window that asked if I wanted to install it, when I did it would say there was a problem and quit Steam and the installation. I did install Steam through CrossOver (CrossOver Games by the way). I went through the whole configure, install software, steam via download and all that stuff.
can you please file a support ticket about this error so that we can track it more closely?
