Just downloaded the trial. Reboot issue?

I just downloaded the COGames trial.

I installed a copy of Dreamfall. Everything seems to have gone fine except the installer is now asking me to "Reboot the computer to complete installation. Continue?"

I click continue and then the installer quits. Then I click on "Manage bottles" and I have two bottles: 'winxp' and 'DREAMFALL'.

I click Control Panel on each and then the "Simulate a system reboot in this bottle". COG simulates the reboot, but when I launch the Dreamfall bottle, the Dreamfall installer gives me the same "Reboot the computer to complete installation. Continue?" message again.

How can I get past this?

Try starting the game using Run Command and see if that gets it going.

Nope. didn't work. any other ideas?

Hi,

Looking at the WineHQ entry for this game ;

http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=5305&iTestingId=38958

...then do a bit of cross referencing on a possible winebug with this title;

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16955

....in your case, the game apparently doesn't think it's installed correctly. I
would do something like;

start with a fresh winxp or win2000 bottle
use winecfg to set emulate virtual desktop ON for the bottle in question
install directx runtime into said bottle
on a hunch, I would install visual c++ 6.0 redistributable into the said bottle
then I would try installing Dreamfall and see what happens

Cheers!

Okay, thanks for the detailed answer. But can you tell me where I get "directx runtime" and "visual c++ 6.0 redistributable"?
And how do I install them?

Thanks for the help!

Hi,

The exact answer depends on whether you're using Mac or linux OS.....

In the Mac case, see...;

http://www.codeweavers.com/support/docs/crossover-games-mac/mac-preferences-installer

Make sure the Installer Assistant preferences have the 'Hide service packs and dependencies'
checkbox unticked --> the packages I mentioned will then show up in the list of things
you can install into a bottle.

In the linux case, see...;

http://www.codeweavers.com/support/docs/crossover-games-linux/install-windows#installwizard

Make sure the 'Show all service packs and dependencies' checkbox is ticked --> the packages
I mentioned will then show up in the list of things you can install into a bottle.

Cheers!

Hi,

Another thing I've been meaning to ask, is what exact installation media are
you using here...ie; dvd/cd disc, downloaded exe file?...

Cheers!

I'm using Mac 10.6.2.

Game is installing off a retail DVD copy.

Ahh..okay....let us see here...

Are we talking about this game?...see;

http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=2058

If so, this discussion should probably move over to that forum...;

http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=2058;forum=1

If it is the same game we're talking about here, then I see...;

http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=2058;tips=1

In those tips&tricks, I see the words (quote) "(text removed by Codeweavers)"
and this probably means the standard boiler-plate applies here;

The Digital Rights Management (DRM) software in this program
prevents it from running in CrossOver. If you are in a legal jurisdiction
which allows removal of such software, you may have luck running this
program. Unfortunately, CodeWeavers, because they are subject to the
Digital Millennium Copyright Act, will be unable to support you.

My guess is, the error you are seeing may be spawned by a DRM failure
with/in the disc copy-protection mechanism used - this is more likely
the case in the Mac situation, due to limitation with the Mac cd/dvd
drivers. Reading those WineHQ entries about how people got it running
in mainstream wine, further adds to this speculation as being the culprit...

Cheers!

I'm having the very same issue and am very disappointed as Dreamfall was in Crossover Games' compatibility list.

Hi,

It's in the compatibility list as an unsupported application, nothing more. As I say above,
this discussion should be moved to the game's own C4 forum pages so that more people that
have the game can see this thread (some advocates/users only watch their own title and do
not see the general forum content at all)...and perhaps comment. That being said, and having
already looked through both the C4 pages here and the WineHQ AppDB, it is clearly apparent
that disc based version of this game are subject to DRM (disc_check) that doesn't yet work
in crossover/wine -- what is also apparent, is that the Steam release of this title seems to
work 'out of the box'....

Cheers!
