Still can't run Star Wars Battlefront II 2017 after update to CrossOver 23.5

Hi guys, still getting same black screen after update to 23.5 on my Mac Studio M1 chip with Sonoma 14.0 OS, the game rating says it's playable, am I missing something? How do I install it to be able to run it?

Hi there,

How are you trying to run the game?

Best,
Meredith

Hi! Thanks for getting back to me on this topic, I'm installing "Star Wars Battlefront II 2017", it installs through Steam in a new bottle Windows 10 x64, so it's installing "DirectX for Modern Games" drivers, then Steam app, downloading the game from Steam, then I'm also installing "EA app for Steam" staff, when game is downloaded and I launch it, it asks to install EA app, so I'm installing it, when finished I launch the game again and it only opens a black window called "Star Wars Battlefront II" and that's it. I tried enabling D3DMetal and DXVK and ESync, all same black window.

Any update on this issue? Also doesn't work with latest CrossOver 23.6. Thanks.

You can try installing it by searching for and installing "Steam" then "EA App for Steam" in the Steam bottle, rather than searching for the game. If that works better, please let me know; our installation recipe might be out of date.

Hey! I'm also running into this same issue on the latest (at the time of this post) 23.6. I own the game directly through the EA app, and have just installed it like any other crossover application.

I was actually able to see the game for a moment when I first tried booting it up, but after i messed with some graphics settings (turning off borderless did it i think), the game basically just black screened. I tried removing my battlefront folder from my documents folder which contained game settings, but that didn't seem to fix the black screen for me.

Ok, I deleted everything, even reinstalled the Crossover app, then installed game through Steam, still same issue, game doesn't launch. Can you please fix it, I bought CrossOver just to play this game and it was perfect before EA app was introduced....

It's a little silly to buy a product specifically to run a game, when it is not guaranteed to work. But I digress..

I just installed Battlefront II(2017) on Crossover 23.6 via Steam in a new bottle and installed the required dependancy 'EA App for Steam' as is required for anything running through the EA app. First time running, it only showed me a black screen. So I restarted Crossover and started again, opened and ran fine. Jumped into a game, apart from a couple stuttering issues it appeared fine for me.

Can you please show me your Wine settings? Are you using D3DMetal or DXVK? Are you using ESync option at the same time? You installed Steam into "Steam" bottle first then downloaded Battlefront II into same "Steam" bottle or you created a separate new bottle for Battlefront II game? I restarted CrossOver but still have black screen, game doesn't launch... can I debug somehow to see what's not working and why?

So I actually managed to get the game to run after messing around with it for a bit. Here's what I did:

-Run the game with D3DMetal enabled. If the game doesn't boot, restart your bottle and retry
-Once you're in the main menu, head over to the options and then video (the game flickers really badly with d3dmetal enabled so lower your brightness)
-Adjust your graphics settings to whatever you'd like them to be and set your windowed mode to borderless
-Quit the bottle, disable D3DMetal, and enable DXVK
-Single click your launcher, select the "run with options" box that pops up on the right side, and check the "create log file" checkbox
-Press run and launch the game. It should (hopefully) boot correctly now

I could be totally wrong, but I'm guesstimating that wine/DXVK is having some sort of issue with fullscreen mode which is why we all were getting that blank window popping up. I should also note that I'm running this game directly from the EA app, though I doubt doing this with steam would cause anything different to happen.

Still always getting a black screen, it doesn't run with D3DMetal, so I can't change the window settings...

Hmmm, it should run through D3DMetal https://youtu.be/0-8ZEWKcAYg?si=UaT6YFshom3b6kJw

Only thing i could really recommend is making sure that your crossover is up to date and creating a fresh bottle

Yeah, I'm sure that CrossOver is latest version 23.6, new bottle named "Steam" was created when installing Steam, then Battlefront was installed in same "Steam" bottle.
