CrossOver Games and upgrade offer eligibility

I tried the CrossOver games trial with Steam and Half Life 2 - it didn't work great, there were some font problems, but on the whole I found the Wine/CrossOver project interesting. I then got an email offering a 60% discount if I purchased CrossOver Games and eligibility for the upgrade to CrossOver 9.0.

I wanted to support the project even if I haven't yet got much out of CrossOver Games, so I bought it. But now the 9.0 update has been released and I don't have a download link showing.

Now I know the answer is obvious: CrossOver Games is a separate application to CrossOver (and I didn't buy CrossOver), but my query is why offer the upgrade then as incentive to buy CrossOver Games? I haven't lost out much, i'll grant you, but I think the offer could be confusing for some.

My two cents.

Now, I didn't see this offer, but I believe you are indeed confused here. As you say you didn't buy CrossOver, which got the update to 9.0 today.

The update for CrossOver Games to 9.0 is still coming up; I seem to remember that the folks at Codeweavers claimed it would be available a week after the CrossOver update, but that's not a promise.

So, sit back, relax, and wait...

I don't know that Crossover Games is going to be available a week after but probably when they start work on it :).

That said, Crossover Games 9.0 is not yet available and I'd imagine if you don't see an email for an upgrade when it does become available then just email info@codeweavers.com, they're good people and will get you straightened out.

Ah I see, so there is a 9.0 upgrade for CrossOver Games after all. My bad, when I saw the CrossOver release I took that to be the upgrade they were talking about.

Thanks.

Same here I sent an email to info@codeweavers.com and got the following response:

"CrossOver Games 9.0 has not yet been released. We expect CX Games 9.0 to be released later this month. The current release of CrossOver Games is 8.1.4. You will be notified when the 9.0 release is made available, but I would still check back on our website later this month Please let me know if there is anything else I can do for you at this time. My very best regards.

You would not be the only one confused as the statement in the offer mentioned the 2nd of March 2010:

"you will also receive the upgrade to our latest version of software (CrossOver 9.0) which we plan to release on March 2, 2010. To be clear, you get the discount and you get the upgrade"

I bought this hoping for better support for several games knowing that crossover 8.x had issues supporting them (in the trials I used) and hoping that CrossOver 9 would support them better (was worth the discounted price knowing it would be out the 2nd of March).

Alas, Guess we will have to wait a bit longer than the offer originally stipulated. 😊

I bought after getting the same email.. Quoted below:

"For the next two days, you will have the opportunity to purchase CrossOver Games at a 60% discount. This is a one-time offer only available to trial users. What makes this offer truly special is that in addition to the SPECIAL DEAL CODE, you will also receive the upgrade to our latest version of software (CrossOver 9.0) which we plan to release on March 2, 2010. To be clear, you get the discount and you get the upgrade."

I agree with the Daniel, as someone new to Crossover Games I didn't pick up that the advertisement was for a different product (Crossover) and expected to get Crossover Games 9.0 on the 2nd. When Crossover 9 was released and I didn't get a link I figured it was a mistake on my part in reading the email - now that I check the message its pretty clear they messed up on that advertisement and put the wrong product/date (glass half full). Or they wanted to spur purchases of Crossover Games knowing the 9.0 release of that wouldn't be until later and figured they'd catch a few people like me (glass half empty). Good thing for Codeweavers I'm a glass half full kind of guy.
