This may help issues like community tab and stuff like that - but you're
still going to need something like a wine engine underneath this alleged
Mac Steam GUI client to run windows games -- the same would be true if Steam
created a linux based GUI client, and I don't think anyone has any idea of how
something like this will work with crossover yet. Get excited if you want of
course, but I'll sit back on the adage "don't count your chickens before the
eggs hatch"...and see what actually happens..
Cheers!
Yep, I thought I read somewhere that it still won't run PC Games so that leads me to believe that (a) its as Don indicated stuff I'm not sure I care about or (b) maybe they're going to start supporting Mac versions of Games which again I'm not sure I care about considering everything I generally want already own on a PC or XBox360 or the port to the Mac is awful.
Yeah, my main point was finding a way to utilize a Mac steam to run windows games under wine instead of a wined steam. A possible probability
Didn't realize there was Game forum. Some games are being ported. For example Portal 2 is suppose to ported.
http://www.macrumors.com/2010/03/07/valves-portal-2-confirmed-for-mac/
That would make more sense...even if did do a good port and convinced me to buy it again for the Mac I'm wondering would I do it if a bulk of my games haven't been ported yet. I don't suppose they'd just allow me to use a the Mac versions if I already paid for on the PC :).
Confirmed!

Your games transfer over for free too.
I'm hesitant to make any immediate switch, as there are bound to be bugs and glitches. If anything, I'll keep both for a while and see what performs better. If I don't have to buy my games again, even better!!

THANK YOU FOR THIS LINK! YOU JUST MADE MY MONDAY!
From the looks of it, they're only porting the Source engine games. Doesn't look
like anybody's said anything about the other 75% of the Steam catalog of games that
are not Steam/Source related....looks like a boon for Source game players on Mac,
but for all the rest of people wanting to play Steam titles not based on Source?...

Yep. It would help people with those games, but the rest of them is still unclear so I would assume there's still a need for Crossover Games and Steam.
Actually...
From: Destructoid.com
(http://www.destructoid.com/steam-confirmed-for-mac-valve-games-coming-in-april-166230.phtml)You probably knew it was coming, but that doesn't make this
confirmation any less exciting. Valve went all out with an
information dump today, saying more than just "Steam and Source are
coming to Mac."For starters, there's this new feature called Steam Play.
Essentially, it's the thing that lets you purchase games for PC and
play them on your Mac (or vice versa) at no additional cost.To make matters crazier, Steam Play -- when the developer opts to
include it -- allows you to switch between Mac and PC versions of
the same game without losing any progress; you can pick up exactly
where you left off.Expect to see all Valve games simultaneously launch on PC, Mac, and
Xbox 360 -- Portal 2 will be the first one to hit PC/Mac on the same
day. Valve also says the two platforms will be connected through
multiplayer, and all updates will hit simultaneously as well. Finally, Left 4 Dead 2, Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike, Portal, and
the Half-Life series will be available for Mac in April. See, I told
you this was more than a simple confirmation!
And from the guys from Valve themselves for full confirmation: http://store.steampowered.com/news/3569/
...It's been good, Codeweavers.
(My one year subscription is ending soon, anyways. xD)
There has been talk about what games will be ported over, and as of now it seems most companies are willing to move their games over to steam that they have on the mac like CoD:MW, DOOM 3 and a few others have been talked about. It's not official yet, but I think that before the April release, we will see a list of what is confirmed on release day.
Also Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is being talked about from Dice. On his Tweet he posted up his thoughts about Mac going to steam and maybe a Mac port of B:BC2 being a possibility.

Good point....having the facility of a Mac native Steam client, will (or should)
provide a more tangible marketplace for games developers to -consider- porting
their games to other platforms ; specifically here, the Mac. It'll be interesting
to see if any sort of 'roll on' effect becomes evident like that. Of course, there's
a huge number of Steam titles that will never be ported, but it will be interesting
to see what titles -do- make it onto the list.
I think the real news here is that how Valve is doing the "port" is by building OpenGL support into the Source engine. I'll give you a minute to let it sink in... Do you guys realize what it means! OpenGL works on Linux too! So HL2 and all mods (TF2, L4D and L4D2) will go to being half silver, half gold ratings on Linux to all gold ratings with close to a 90 percent comparable speed rating. All WINE would have to do is to make the same API calls except in the Linux format. Also an offical port to Linux would be super easy, now the Steam GUI not so much but it's a step in the right direction.

I agreed that that's what has me most excited. This is making the Mac a legit gaming platform. As for Linux I'm sure someone can make the mac steam run on linux so you guys can implicate the games via OpenGL instead of darned old Directx. Then Crossover Can focus on you linux guys if we mca guys are covered so well by Valve. :D thanks for the work Codeweavers.
I dont think that it will replace crossover for mac
due to the fact valve only does games and i will still want to play my old games that obviously wont be re-ported

Yeah, true. But the main supported games by the codeweavers are in fact Source games which are all be macatized...
Yes but then they can support other games and maybe impulse

List of Steam Games that have a native OSX client :

Thanks Tom, always good to see the coverage ;)
Even if Steam is ported to Mac and later to Linux their is still a large number of games that Steam doesn't represent. Steam is only one piece of a larger puzzle. Sure it's great that Mac users will get a native Steam port, but I'm sure their are allot of games people play that Steam doesn't represent. Take WoW for example, last I checked it wasn't available through Steam. And their are countless other titles not available as well.
So even if you have a native Steam client, CX-Games will still be a nice addition to any Gamers arsenal. :)
Cheers,
Tom
As far as Mac users go, that was a very poor example. WoW, and in fact every Blizzard game since Warcraft II, has had a Mac native version since launch.

If by "countless" your mean the Halo Series and WoW then yes I agree. Mac users will have to deal with Halo 1 only for now... O darn. Every Other Major Release (at least recently) seams to have a Steam version. the Bioshocks, Dragon Age, Assassin's creeds, gears of War, BF:BC2, borderlands, Supreme commander, CoD, Tom Clancy stuff, Mass Effect, COmmand and Conquer, GTA, etc.
It's hard to find a game to play that ISNT on Steam... or on Mac...
-Cheers to you too.
