I've always exported bottles to back them up. sometimes, that doesn't work, or they get corrupted.
What's the difference between Export / Publish / Create Package from a bottle? Which is best for backup and seemless reimport to get it working again after an OS update or shift to a new machine?
There might be issues when porting bottles to a new machine (for example, applications can recognize that the machine is different and trigger DRM, or settings applied at install time may no longer be correct), or trying to transfer a bottle to an older version of CrossOver, but otherwise it should work seamlessly. If exporting and importing a bottle in the same or a newer CrossOver version on the same machine causes problems, I would consider that a bug.
Publish and Create Package are advanced tools for system administrators. Publish allows a program to be installed for all users on a single machine. Create Package generates a .deb or .rpm that can be installed alongside CrossOver on multiple machines. Neither of those are likely to solve your issues with bottle imports. They are probably worse for your use case because they won't include user-specific configuration files, and they can require extra configuration to get working smoothly.
