I'd love to buy but....

I'd buy the application if I'd see a comprehensive guide to install the applications.
For example the most important (as how I see globally) the Office application. I saw plenty of ppl around the internet who's struggling with that.. (mee too for example).

Unfortunately this Crossover seems not well documented on user side...
Quite unfortunate and confusing.

I seens to be confusing but once you understand how it is organized it is very easy.

You can create a bottle on the top menu (burger menu) choose the created bottle option, once created you can select it and you will have all the settings on the right.

Regards

Hi there,

What questions do you have about installing Office?

Please also see our Linux user guide for more information about installing applications in CrossOver: https://media.codeweavers.com/pub/crossover/docs/en/userguide-crossover-linux-23.pdf

Best,
Meredith

First of all the manuals... did anybody check the validity of the manuals what U're sending out as a "RTFM"?

For example O365. Everywhere you're sending out the same manual.
..to install O365 choose the install source... setup.x86.en-us....... where did you get that source?

As a simple user who bought O365 get 7Mb OfficeSetup.exe file from office.com and can install it. What is that source what are you referring to? How can a user get that?

I tried the "deployment method" where we can set up the parameter from a pre-configure xml file and install on Windows simply
setup.exe /configure parameter.xml but Crossover can not handle it.

Hi again,

We downloaded the .exe logged into our account on office.com. Note that office.com is not friendly to Linux users, and you'll need to spoof your user agent to download the installer.

Meredith

I cannot see what is unclear in her request. A lot of software that you can install on Linux with software, has a set of specific instructions on what to do, if a bottle hasn't already been developed specifically for that software that all you have to do is install it and then put in your license information when you start it.

Evidently either this specific software does not, or she doesn't know where to find it. She is pointing out that she'd love to install this specific software if you provide the specific instructions.

Unless something seriously changed, the specific instructions has never been just find the software install package and click on create bottle. You need to know what support stuff you have to also put in the bottle, that if it's not there, the software will not run properly.

If something seriously changed, and crossover provides all that extra stuff that Windows software might need to run, and you don't have to know what specific things are needed and add them, then the answer to her question would be to say that that is the case.

Also, you're going to have to be specific about what do you mean about "spoof the user agent", this is as clear as mud. If she needs to know the specific instructions to install her software with Crossover, she needs to know how to "spoof the user agent" whatever that means, too. She may not say so. Most people would just look at the combined nonanswer and disrespect, and give up.

I agree. It may be simple to some of us to do certain IT stuff, but to the avarage user, well, most don't even imagine that a web browser has something called "user agent". I believe step-by-step detailed instructions for beginners are really needed. Perhaps a Youtube video? At least for Office, since it is a very commonly used suite...

Just my humble opinion...

I'm approaching 76 yrs of age and have no IT training. I'm just an average computer user. I have a paid up Crossover Linux subscription and had no trouble installing Crossover, and creating bottles within it to run several programs including MSWord.. If my old brain can work it out, it surely should be a breeze for a younger person.

Great to know that Barry! But you are definitely above average. And it is more a psychological block than lack of capacity. Some people seem to fear technology more than others. Giving detailed instructions would help a lot. Again, just IMHO...
