I am using Quicken 2019 on a Chromebook and can not print a report to a printer or save to a PDF.
That makes it rather impractical to use Quicken.
Are there any alternatives or solutions?

Hi Dave,
We have a tutorial for how to set up printing on chromebooks here: https://www.codeweavers.com/support/wiki/chromeos/cloudprint
The interface has changed a bit so some of the screenshots are out of date, but the setup is the same. Please let me know if you are still having trouble.
Thanks,
Anna
Anna,
My apologies for not noticing your reply till now.
I followed your instructions on how to setup cloud printing in Crossover. That step went very well and it discovered a number of my printers.
Here is a picture of that.
However when I start Quicken try to print a report or try to setup a printer for reports I get an error that says.
No printers installed. (Use the Windows Control Panel to install printers). The title of the Quicken popup is " Intuit Printing Library".
Please advise.
Dave
Hi Dave,
Unfortunately I cannot see the first image you attached, only the second one. I went ahead and tested out the scenario with our copy of Quicken 2019 and I got the same error as you before I configured the Google cloud printer, but Quicken was able to see my printers correctly after I configured the bottle.
Are you sure that you configured the printers for the Quicken 2019 bottle specifically? If you have more than one program installed with CrossOver, you will need to configure the printers for each bottle (represented by the individual icons on the "home" page of CrossOver ChromeOS).
We also have a bug regarding changes to cloud printers after they have been configured with the bottle. If you are certain that you configured the printer for the Quicken bottle specifically, then I would try these steps and see if any fix the issue.
1) Open a chrome browser on your Chromebook and go to "chrome://devices" to make sure that your printer is showing up as expected.
2) If you do not regularly use the cloud print feature of your printer, I would also advise doing a test print with the Chrome browser to make sure it is working (I personally have found cloud print to be finicky, especially if set up on Linux).
3) If all of your Quicken data is saved (I believe this is automatic but you can save a copy of the .QDF file as a backup) , you could try deleting and reinstalling Quicken 2019 and loading your saved .QDF file and reconfiguring cloud printers. This would account for any changes to your Google Cloud printers that may not have been picked up by CrossOver.
If you are still seeing the failure, please let me know or file a support ticket with a reference to this post (you can use the "Contact Us" link at the top of the page to do this). We would be interested in gathering a log of your failure to see if we could fix it in a future release.
Thanks,
Anna
Anna,
Thanks so much for getting back to me. Sorry for the delay in my reply. I am oh so close (actually printed from NotePad) , but still get the same errors. Here is what I have tested.
Used a different Chromebook just in case (Acer Chromebook 15 with touch Model CB515-1HT).
Powerwashed the Acer so I started with a completely clean Chromebook.
Used the Chromebook for a few hours to prove everything worked as normal.
Then I spent more time on your Website support pages to see If I could learn a little more about crossover and found the "How to setup Google Cloud Print" article, etc.
Installed Crossover.
Installed the simplest windows app I could think of. NoteTab Light free text editor.
Double clicked on the NoteTab Light after installation and setup Google cloud print. It listed all my Google Cloud printers plus Save to Drive.
Ran NoteTab Light. created a simple text file and tried to print, print all, and Print setup. All failed with the same error message "There is no default printer currently selected."
Saved the text file. rebooted Chromebook and tried several times with the same error message. Even reinstalled the google cloud printers. After several attempts no luck.
As I was stumbling around trying to learn a little more about Crossover I noticed when I double click NoteTab Light I have and option in the pulldown to "Launch File Explorer".
So I did that and opened the text file I created with the built in NotePad app. I PRINTED that to my cloud printer just fine!!!!!
Then in addition I Saved it to Google Drive and I have a PDF. Both printing and saving to PDF is important to me.
However when I run the NoteTab Light app I get the error message "There is not efault printer currently selected". Same problem I had in Quicken for the last few months.
So close but no cigar.
Am I doing something wrong?
Please advise.
Dave
Hi Dave,
Thank you for the detailed description!!! It makes things much easier :)
If you were able to print with notepad, then it sounds like printing itself is set up correctly, and the two applications that you have tried are failing to print because of some bug in CrossOver. As a double-check that an installed application will print once you have the printers configured for the bottle, you can try Notepad++ since I have tested this one myself.
I will make a note to test printing from Quicken so that a bug can be filed.
Thank you for all of your testing! It helps us out a lot to narrow down the possible reasons for the failure.
Thanks,
Anna
Anna,
Thanks for the prompt reply.
I installed Notepad++ with all defaults and the update.
I launched Notepad++ and opened my test text document and tried to print. It failed of course because I had not connected any printers to the bottle.
After connecting the Google cloud printers to the Notepad++ bottle I successfully printed and saved a PDF to my Google drive.
Hope this helps
Dave
Hi Dave,
Some of my co-workers have joined in on the quest to get to the bottom of this error. They were able to successfully print from Quicken, but saw the same failure as you with Notetab light. Now that you have confirmed that your print setup works with Notepad++, could you try again with Quicken to see if you get the same error as before?
Thanks,
Anna
Anna,
I am questioning my sanity and suspect you will too.
My original plan was to install Quicken on my new Acer chromebook test platform I have been testing recently. But since I had not yet installed Quicken I decided to save some time and double check my original HP X2 Chromebook setup that has had Quicken installed for several months, but not used for the last month or two. So wouldn't you know, my first Quicken report print and save PDF to Google Drive works!!!!! I could never get it to work before. I have done nothing to the Quicken setup since problems I reported to you in the back in March/April??
Does Crossover Android software update itself? Have there been any updates in the couple of months or days?
I'll try to install Quicken on my Acer when I have the time just to satisfy my curiosity.
This is so strange!!!
Dave
Anna,
Update #2
After successfully printing on the original HP X2 chromebook Quicken setup I then installed Quicken on my test Acer 15 chromebook setup.
It prints quicken reports to my printer and saves PDF to Google drive also!!!
As a side note because the Acer 15 has a more standard 1920x1080 FHD 15" screen the Quicken display is MUCH better.
in the HP X2 chromebook higher resolution screen every thing is out out of proportion, harder to read and the little pop up windows stating Quicken searching for updates are very hard to read. Although the Acer 15 is slower its is a much more enjoyable experience.
Dave
Hi Dave,
Yay!!!! That is great to hear! I am so glad that you are seeing the same success as we are now, especially since that would be hard to troubleshoot if you were still seeing an error at this point :) It is definitely possible that Google updated something on their side or the cloud printing software for your printer improved. I also did some detective work a few weeks ago for a related issue, and found that currently CrossOver is not great at detecting changes to the cloud print after you set it up in a bottle. Possibly something had changed in the cloud print setup and your old bottle failed to detect it? In any case, I'm glad it is working now :)
Thanks,
Anna
Anna,
Thanks for staying with me all these months till it got fixed!!
Dave
