Trying to complete a purchase in the cart of the new steam client gives error -9 (unknown error) probably because I have paypal as my default and iirc steam now opens a 2nd webkit(chrome?) window to complete the purchase. Running the latest beta of CrossOver Games.
Also I realize this is a beta issue technically, but don't know where the beta forums are. So if someone wants to link me I can post there instead.
I don't know if online purchasing via the Steam client (ever?) worked ;
certainly I have been purchasing via my system web-browser (firefox) and
then using the Steam client to download/install the games. As for the beta
forums, I think you need to be an advocate to access that forum area...
I didn't know I could login & purchase via Firefox. I have a windows (Xeon) box that Steam normally runs on, stuck attending my wife in the hospital atm so I figured I would finally give CrossOver Mac a go on my MBP (2007 17") since I can put the Pro license I nabbed to use with some other software later... The performance for the games I've played the last few years is sluggish enough that I wanted to replay some older games. 8600m & merom cpu isn't what it used to be when this thing was new.
Also until the brand new UI came along Steam was using IE integration, so purchases would rely on IE functionality (SSL etc) as well as an IE popup window for the paypal route. Now that things are webkit/chrome based I would think it would be feasable to look at what is lacking in the Steam install script and make sure that's accounted for. Though I suppose since Steam is coming to mac shortly anyway it's a bit moot....
Thanks for the reply =]
