I'm having a bit of a problem with running Half-Life 2: Episode 2 through Steam. When I first installed everything (from the disks I had, didn't download through Steam), all the games from the Orange Box worked. But when I ran Episode 2 and changed the videosettings around a bit (to have it windowed), I had to quit the game as the menu was getting all messed up (only showing the top-left corner of the menu etc.)
Now, whenever I try to start Episode 2 now, it shows the steam window with "Preparing the launch Half-Life 2: Episode 2..." and I can obviously hear the computer processing stuff, but after a while the window just disappears and the processing stops and nothing gets loaded.
When I check the taskmanager, I can see a process called "wineloader (doesn't response)" in red, and stopping that process causes Steam to shut down.
All the other Steam-games work mighty fine (cheers for that!), it's just Episode 2 being the annoy kid every family has :(
Try adding "-dxlevel 81" also to the Steam launch properties for HL2 and see if that helps.
