The Massachusetts Office of Campaign and Political Finance supplies a
windows program named "Reporter4" for Massachusetts political
committees to use in recording and reporting their finances. At
http://www.ocpf.net/reporter/release_notes.htm they write:
"Reporter 4 requires the Dot Net Framework which is not available for
Windows 95 computers. Therefore, Windows 98 or above is required to
run Reporter 4. The Dot Net Framework is available on most computers
that have shipped over the last two years. If you do not have it
installed, you may download it using the above link. Reporter 4 will
check for it during its installation and download it if necessary. If
you are installing the Dot Net Framework, you must have administrative
rights on the computer you are using. To use Reporter 4, you must have
full rights to the installation folder."
They write at http://www.mass.gov/ocpf/r4_help.htm that Windows
Vista may not recognize your rights to run the Reporter 4 program as
an administrator, which Reporter 4 needs to access the web and
download update files. To resolve this issue:
Go to C:\Program Files\Reporter4\Reporter4.exe and right-click on the
Reporter.exe file. Choose "Properties" from the menu. The Properties
dialog box will open. Select the "Compatibility" tab. Under the
"Privilege Level" section, Click on the checkbox labeled "Run this
program as an administrator" and click "OK."
Reporter 4 writes its data files in the "C:\Program Files\Reporter4"
directory and in a sub-directory named "1" that it creates at
"C:\Program Files\Reporter4\1".
When you go to http://www.ocpf.net/reporter/register.php, you are
asked for a CPF (Campaign and Political Finance) ID Number which can
be left blank if you don't have one, your name, and your E-Mail
address (which appears to be optional).
When you click the "Download Reporter 4" button, you are taken to
http://www.ocpf.net/reporter/download.htm which contains links to
http://www.ocpf.net/reporter/Reporter4.msi to download the
installer, http://www.ocpf.net/reporter/dotnetfx.exe to download the
Dot Net Framework, and http://www.ocpf.net/reporter/Reporter.exe for
the Reporter4 executable (without the installer).
I downloaded the Reporter4.msi file and tried installing it under
CrossOver Mac. There were errors in the install log.
I have two questions.
- What are my chances of getting this to work?
- How should I proceed?
