Right Clicking Windows taskbar icons

There is an issue I can’t seem to figure out. When one of my windows application normally runs, it’s preferences and operation menus are controlled by right clicking on the apps icon that normally sits in the Windows taskbar. If I right click on the apps icon in the MAC’s dock running Crossover, its brings up the MACs right click menu, not that apps right click menu.

Thanks for the help

Hello,

I'm afraid that right-clicking on the app icon in the Mac dock will always bring up Mac's right click menu. Crossover will not give windows functionality to the icon itself. You will need to find another way to open the preferences and operation menus from within the app.

I'm test driving CrossOver for Mac and have one Windows application (Hummingbird Exceed on Demand) that I use for connectivity to my development environment at my office.

Presently I use VMWare Fusion, running EoD in a VM. As a side note, even on a MBP with 4GB a 1.5Gb VM impacts performance.

The install of Exceed was a breeze and all was well until I started looking for access to the task bar button menu (which was about 30 seconds after I started Exceed).

Right click access to the task bar button menu would be very useful. "Finding another way" is not possible with all applications.

It doesn't need to be from the dock icon, and probably should not as mixing Mac and Windows behavior on a dock icon could be problematic.

Accessing the application task bar menu from the window frame (title bar) or from the CrossOver app menu seems like possibilities.

After a while I realized that to access the task bar application menu the bottle must be configured to NOT manage the application windows. Then the menu is accessible through the Window title bar decorations. I prefer using the native WM decorations as it is easier on my eyes.

Unfortunately the Exceed on Demand feature I was attempting to access does not appear functional under WINE. The EoD "Paste to X Selection" feature appears not to work (after many attempts). This is a feature I use frequently.

Not a show stopped, just an inconvenience.

I think you can access the window menu by typing Command to put focus in the menu bar of the Windows program. Then, type space to pull down the first menu. Then, type left-arrow to move to the "previous" menu, which is the window menu. Admittedly, that's tedious. I don't know if there's a more direct way.

Please Note: This Forum is for non-application specific questions relating to installation/configuration of CrossOver. All application-specific posts to this Forum will be moved to their appropriate Compatibility Center Forum.
