I downloaded Crossover Games two days ago, then installed steam, and then spent all night downloading half-life 2. Once the download was done, I tried to launch HL2 and the game launched, but all I got was a white screen. I tried opening steam in a window, but then HL2 would "prepare to launch" and then just not launch. If Crossover games worked properly, I would probably buy the full version. By the way, I'm using a Macbook with a 1.83 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 GB of RAM and an Intel GMA 950 graphics card. OS X 10.6.3. Any help would be appreciated
The videocard you have isn't all that powerful, still, you should be
able to get hl2 running with it in someway - exactly how good it will
run is another matter. Have a look at the tip&trick here posting here
titled "Any hl2 game on an older Mac" ;
From other reports about the gma-950 you will likely want to enable 'emulate
a virtual desktop' in winecfg and run hl2 at a resolution of 1024x768 with
most of your graphics settings set to the lowest possible values. There may be
a few other tricks that can be applied yet to make it run a bit better, but
first try the tip&trick/advice presented here and let us know how you get on...
Cheers!
