Crossover Games 7.1.1 will not launch (appears and disappears immediately)

I downloaded Crossover Games 7.1.1 some time ago when it was offered for free in some promotional stunt. So I figured I would try to run Steam on it. I installed Cx Games (and x11 from the osx disk), but when I run it, the icon appears for one second and then disappears again.
Does anyone know why this happens? And how I can get it to work? I'm on Snow Leopard.

Because since Steam has a new UI, you need CXGames 9 to run it. As Valve (understandably) didn't keep the legacy option of an older style UI, it's CXG9 or nothing. Unless you can get it to run in plain Wine, of course.

I don't know what a legacy option is, but is it possible to get an older version of steam? If so, where and which one?

But the bigger problem is that Crossover or Crossover Games won't even run, as I explained in my previous post. Any solution?

You can get an older version of Steam, but it'll auto-update to the newest one every time you sign in, so the answer is pretty much no.

And I think Snow Leopard broke CXGames 7 compatability which was fixed in CXG8, but I don't use a Mac so I'm going on what I've heard.

You can hack CXGames 7 to run on Snow Leopard (10.6) by following this FAQ:

I'm not sure if that will get Steam going correctly with all of the newer Steam changes though as Carl Morgan suggested.
